How to sell real estate - fast.

I'm a programmer, but I do love real estate. Sadly, I'm really bad at operating it. I know, because I bought a multi-family home and have been struggling to maintain it. I was under the impression that buying real estate was a pension-like thing. But I realized soon that this thing is either going to keep me in the workforce or shorten my life.

Don't get me wrong, I do love real estate and building cool houses, but having to deal with tenants? Other people are more suited to that, not me.

So I decided to sell my house. Probably in the worst market there is, compared to the last 10 years. I hired the realtor next door. Same guy who conveniently sold me the house before too.

He told me that from time to time he facilitates bidding processes (much like auctions) to get the highest price out of a property deal. I loved hearing that, because it sounds exactly like a problem software can help with.

So I spent the last few weekends building BrickByBid.com, a bidding processor. As a realtor, you can sign up, add a property, and invite your buyers to the lot. The realtor can either sell the house in a classic English auction, with a time limit and a winning bid at the end, or flip it on its head and sell the property in a Dutch auction: start with the maximum the seller has in mind and have it run down towards a minimum. The first one to bid wins.

The first auctions (or legally more correct: price findings) were successful, and I think I have a real helper here.

Costs: I charge 0.13% of the property value for my service. The first auction is free. So if you are a realtor, or know someone who is, I'd be happy to get your business.
