Speed Cameras

Speed cameras in Europe

This summer my wife and I drove through Germany, Belgium and Luxembourg all the way to Northern France. We had an amazing time. So many beautiful châteaux, so many little towns where the bakery is older than my country's constitution. Really lovely.

I'm no speeder. But I do get a little distracted when I drive somewhere I don't know. Look, a château! Look, another one! Needless to say, I had to hit the brakes once or twice to avoid a speed camera. Not cool. Especially not with your wife in the passenger seat giving you that look.

I used to have an app for this. Blitzer.de. I even bought the Pro version, back when you could simply buy things. Then, for some reason, they kicked me out and offered me some sort of subscription instead. No going back to the one-time purchase I had already paid for. So now I don't have Pro anymore, which means I see the stationary cameras and none of the mobile ones. The stationary ones are the ones that have been standing in the same spot since 1998. I know where those are. Thank you.

That got me thinking. Blitzer.de makes its money because everyone else does the work: the drivers report the cameras, the drivers keep the data fresh. From where I sit, the app itself hasn't changed in years, and the only innovation I ever noticed was a new way to squeeze more money out of me.

Time to shake their world.

EuroRadar app iconSo I built a new speed camera app. During the vacation. Yes, my wife knows. It is called EuroRadar, and it already knows about 35,000 stationary speed and red light cameras across Europe.

You can also report mobile cameras in it, and I really hope you do. Because there is no other way to crush Blitzer.de's monopoly than all of us, together, pointing at every bored police officer with a tripod in a lay-by.

Can you do that for me? Together we can make this the best free speed camera app there is. Free as in free. No Pro version. No subscription. I promise. I know how that feels.
